A Magical Night | Grand Concert with Maria Farantouri and the Athens State Orchestra
Series | Tribute
"Andreas and Maria Kalokerinou" Hall
Maria Farantouri, the great Greek interpreter whose voice is more closely associated than any other with the work of Mikis Theodorakis, meets the Athens State Orchestra for her first appearance at the Cultural and Conference Center of Heraklion, under the baton of the internationally acclaimed conductor Myron Michailidis.
The Carnival, the symphonic suite in which Mikis Theodorakis first attempted to “dress” modern Greek melodies and dances with symphonic orchestral colors, is framed by a selection of his most iconic and beloved songs, orchestrated by Antonis Sousamoglou and Lazaros Tsavdaridis. The program forms a musical tribute full of memory and emotion, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the composer’s birth.
